Wildwood's Leader in Me Night
On March 4th Wildwood held its first Leader in Me Night. It was a great success! The night kicked off with pizza donated by Domino's, cookies, and water. While eating a short video featuring Wildwood students, staff, and families using the 7 Habits was played. Families then were introduced to one of four habits by a Wildwood student leader. After a brief introduction families then participated in activities that centered around each habit. After the activity families rotated to the next room to learn about a new habit. Our school was featured in the Observer and Eccentric paper and on other web sites. Here is a link to one of them! http://www.minewsfeed.com/westland/wildwood-students-introduce-parents-to-7-habits/

Former Wildwood Students Share Their Habits
Recently two former students visited Wildwood to share how they use the 7 Habits in their lives. Savannah and KayAnna visited Mrs. Remer's class and shared the habits and ways they are leaders with the class. The students were excited to see these former Wolves and soaked up their examples. Thanks girls for the great visit and for being great role models!

Wrapping up October
WOW, tomorrow is already the last day of October! What a great month it's been for our Wildwood Leaders! This month we celebrated the first habit: Be Proactive. We had a whole school assembly led by Ms. Martin and Mrs. Piwko. There was a fun sing along and several special guests including Mrs. Lochrie (Executive Director of State/Federal Programs for Wayne-Westland), Mrs. Nadolski and her daughter, and Samantha from Ms. Martin's class spoke. Each special guest shared with us how they are proactive!
Our next assembly will feature Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. We have been working on this habit all month and it's great to see all of the students, staff, and families embracing this habit. One parent shared with me her plan. Her and her daughter knew when her daughter's book report was due. They started with that date in mind and divided the chapters and days to work on the report into each day during the month so that the report would be finished on time. What a great plan!!
What would a Leader in Me school be without a leader of the leaders? This month we welcomed our new principal, Mrs. Mullins! Mrs. Mullins has worked in Wayne-Westland for eight years. She spent the majority of her career at Elliott Elementary as a classroom teacher before starting this school year as an Intervention Specialist at Schweitzer Elementary. She was also the K-5 Social Studies Content Leader. We are super excited to welcome Mrs. Mullins and we know she will be a great fit for Wildwood :)
To end October strong Wildwood sent three of its Lighthouse Team members to a special training last week to become certified 7 Habits facilitators. Congratulations to Mrs. Craig, Ms. Martin, and Mrs. Rutherford for becoming certified trainers! A special thank you to Ms. Munson (Executive Director of School Improvement and Innovation) for setting up and inviting us to this special training!
October was a busy month. However, if you thought October was great, wait until next month!! :)

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids- a book by Sean Covey
It's hard to believe we are already in our second month of Leader in Me! This month Wildwood is working on our second habit: Begin With the End in Mind. This means having a plan. Examples might include a student working to save money to buy something new or a student studying to get into college so they can earn a degree and become a teacher.
To introduce this habit teachers are using the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. This is a student friendly book that introduces all of the habits using characters from Seven Oaks. Each story ends with questions for students and steps they can take to work on each habit.
The following link is a preview of the book:
